Orca Tysfjord Wildlife RIB Safari

The Gulf Stream blesses Tysfjord with one of the mildest winter climates in Norway. So forget everything you've ever imagined about winter in the Arctic and get ready to experience Nature in a whole new way, travelling by sea raft at only half a metre (1.6 feet) above the surface of the sea. At this time of year the magical light and Nature 200 km (120 miles) north of the Polar Circle are at their most spectacular. Boasting the world's densest population, this area is truly The Kingdom of the Sea Eagle, and a close encouter with a bird of prey that can have a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres (8 feet) is an unforgettable experience. Sometimes we meet with minke whales, pilot whales or harbour seals and seabirds such as cormorants and guillemots. We often pause en route at one of the small fishing villages in the region for a little refreshment.

The tour begins and ends at Orca Basecamp, and lasts up to three hours. You will be issued with windproof survival suits, but must bring with you warm clothes, suitable footwear, headgear and gloves. If we encounter the orca, we will follow them and study their behaviour. In the stillness, all you can hear is the slap of the sea against the inflatable, and the dramatic sounds of the whales themselves as breath erupts from their blow-holes, or as they surge through the water. When you get this close to these magnificent creatures you are suddenly and completely a part of their world.

09:00 – Meet at reception
09:30 – Preparation. Putting on survival suits.
Transport to the safari boat
Orca Safari (Approx. 3 hours)

NB! Orca Tysfjord Wildlife RIB Safari has a minimum of 7 participants.

Clothes:
Take with you warm clothing, thermal underwear, sweater, warm footwear, headgear, and gloves.

Lofoten Opplevelser has over 20 years experience with RIB safaris. Your safety is of paramount importance to us. Our fleet of inflatable boats is fitted with powerful inboard motors and the latest navigational and communications equipment. All our crew are thoroughly trained.

Guarantee:
Whales are wild creatures, so we cannot guarantee that they will put in an appearance.
